About the game

Rust Buccaneers is a vehicular combat arcade game with a modern-day pirate theme and various tactical elements. The player controls modern-day pirate ships in an open sea environment from a third person view and takes part in shoot’em up type action.

In Rust Buccaneers, the player’s gets to raid the seas with modern-day Sea vessels armed with modern-day weapons in an open world environment. The gameplay consists of raiding cargo and passenger ships and battling against patrol boats, which raises the player’s infamy.

The game has a single player campaign, an infinite free roaming mode and an arcade style quick game mode. Locally played multiplayer modes include co-op and one-on-one modes.

By completing the Campaign mode missions the player gains access to bigger boats and weapons in addition to more effective upgrades: weapon efficiency upgrades, armor upgrades, boat speed & handling upgrades and cargo expansions. Destroyed ships leave behind loot, which can be exchanged for money.  The new items and upgrades are bought with the money the player gets from selling the collected loot at harbors. Destroyed armed opponents will occasionally leave behind repair kits and short term power-ups (e.g. double guns, high explosive bullets. etc.). Each destroyed ship also increases the player’s infamy points.

Rust Buccaneers has a leader board system for the free roaming mode and the Arcade mode. Both modes also support local and global rankings. The lists are updated automatically after a new high score is reached. As the points are measures as infamy, the player with the highest score is symbolically named the most infamous pirate.
